The X-Caddis
This is an emerging pattern of caddis. Started tying 16's and 18's mainly. Black thread. With a temco hook preferably...Tie in a light tanned colored tail(actually a shuck) mimicking an emerging fly shucking its casing...This is one of the only times you will tie a caddis with what appears to be a tail. Then dub the body about 3/4 of the way up the hook with either a caddis type green or I used a sparkle dun dubbing that has a little darker color to it. Then using Deer hair (flank) because the hair will lay down better across the back of the fly..you don't want this wing immitation to be standing up..laying flat..an easy way to do this is to use the deer hair sparingly(very light)..Then to complete this fly use rooster hackle in front of the wings maybe just a couple of turns. Tie the hackle in shinny side down for best results.
